Health Care Costs
In 2003, employer costs for employee health
insurance benefits reported by the Bureau of
Labor Statistics (BLS) averaged $1.71 per employee

Only
45 percent (Source: BLS) of private-sector employees
are covered by or participate in employer-sponsored
programs, employers who provide health insurance
benefits experienced on average cost of $3,80
per hour for participating employees in 2003.
That cost has more than doubled in four years.
